Sustainability in relation to domestic construction has various meanings depending on your commitment to the cause. Design is the overarching element which impacts everything to follow.
One of the more complex elements of sustainability are the materials used in construction. While it is easy to understand sourcing and using materials that do the least harm the environment during their manufacture and lifespan. Evaluating the carbon footprint of a material including elements like transport to site are more complex. Being a realest I tend to focus on the cost and on-going energy efficiency element of materials.
